Newboulds, famous for their perfect pork pies, have announced that their remaining three stores will close for good with immediate effect.
Originally founded in 1856, the company operated bother shops and a factory but the original company Henry Newbould Ltd went into administration.
The brand was bought out by Country Valley Foods in 2007 when there were 14 Newboulds stores across Middlesbrough, Stockton on Tees, Guisborough, Redcar, Thornaby and Stokesley but this was eventually reduced to the remaining three.
A spokesperson for Country Valley Foods said: “Newboulds has been a loss-making business for seven years that has been fully supported by its parent company, Country Valley Foods.
Tough crust
“We had hoped that there might be a resurgence in the high street that would make the shops financially viable, however this has not happened, so we have had to take the decision to close the shops.”
